Harry's LapTimer Grand Prix App Recensioni

Ottima applicazione!

Very comprehensive but adding video…?

This app is great, comprehensive and analytical. I wanted to use it to insert telemetry into a video and it is NOT intuitive nor remotely easy as RaceChrono Pro and it was difficult! I probably won’t be using.

Great app

You can’t really beat it for the price. Lots of data for that price. Know that it’s not as accurate until you purchase an external gps. Even with that, it’s still going to be cheaper than a dedicated gps lap timer. My current set up is an old iPhone, xgps160 and Harry’s . Some folks mentioned it’s counterintuitive. If you can’t figure out how to use it, maybe riding on a race track isn’t for you.you push like 3 buttons to start logging laps. Maybe more if you haven’t loaded your track yet. So yeah, saying it’s counterintuitive isn’t a true statement imho.

Support is terrible

Harry’s Forum don’t work. Can’t login, can’t register, can’t contact an administrator! Therefore updated info is hard to get. Harry has not updated the app to use the most recent GOPro 9’s. It is impossible to know if a $400 purchase will work unless we try. No thanks Harry, keep it, we will move on to more responsive application developers.

Doesn’t work

Never works, out of 10 track days this thing worked twice. Waste of Money very complicated

Complete app for experts

I have been using this app for almost two years now. It takes some time to set it up and learn to use it but after that it does everything. Now it looks like the app hasn't been updated in a long time and the video import doesn't work well anymore. I tried to do the usual, but the app can't show the video properly and finally crashes. I have iOS 13.3.1. Apple might have changed something in iOS that makes the app not work well. Update to the app is definitely needed.

Not working

The app not working Is stock My I have iPhone version ios 13.3 Please refund my money Thanks dear

Does it all

Been using the App for several years and it packs a ton of capability into your hands. It does require some trial and error and dedication to learn how to use properly, so that will deter some, but for those that want data and video overlay in a tight little package this is the best I’ve found. Harry’s support and updates are top notch!

Garbage App

The short version: This app is garbage, over complicated, counterintuitive, doesn’t work as advertised and constantly freezes/crashes. Don’t waste your time or money on it. The long version: There is a 29 page pdf on their website that only deals with syncing up video. It is outdated, over complicated and should be simplified. It references apps to use for multiple cameras that are no longer available. After reading the exhaustive instructions because the app itself is not at all user friendly nor is it easy to figure out, I took some test drives with it and my GoPros. The app would either freeze up or crash, multiple times, resulting in me having to pull over and reset everything each time. When I finally recorded some decent video from all three cameras, I was unable to sync the videos together with data overlay. I came back later to try again and the app says that it can not locate the videos. This app is a huge waste of time and money. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Worth the investment

Works great and reliable Could use some interface design update to look less like it was "built in the garage by a dude"😉 overall great value 👍 Makes track days feel like MotoGP Update - still awesome. Updates and improvements keep rolling.

Waste off money

Anyone thinking of buying this app do yourself a favor and don’t!! It is a complete waste of money!!

It takes some time to learn the app !

Extremely complicated and freezing all the time, but the developers really good and he responds to everybody on his Facebook page it means he cares about costumers!!!

Great Lap Timer

You get more with this App than what you pay for. The only thing missing is a Desktop application to sync it to so overlaying videos is much much easier. Hopefully that could happen one day. But for now I love being able to see lap times and the data that goes along with it.

Way too buggy, cant give it zero stars

Very frustrating, constantly drops settings, dumps calibration (and wants to calibrate using portrait mode, which I doubt hardly anyone uses), in short over half the time it doesnt work when it did just an hour ago. And considering to use it you will need an expensive mount, you dont go cheap when driving on the track in a fast sports car, it is a much bigger waste of money than you think. I cannot recommend you dont get this strongly enough. And since I've bought it it only gets worse; walk away!

Excellent and very useful app!

I have used Harry's LapTimer many times on the track and it is awesome! It not only creates awesome videos to share with friends, but it is also a great tool to utilize that will make you a better driver. It definitely adds to my track day experience and I highly recommend it!

Perfect for trackdays!

I was searching for a user friendly, cost effective way to track my progress and it share it with the world, as I have just began riding my motorcycle at track days in Texas! The fact that LapTimer has so many tracks Pre loaded into its system for easy access makes this app a no brainer! Multi cam recording and then adding the track overlays are so awesome! I will be using Harry's LapTimer and the last track day of the season at COTA (Austin,TX). I can't wait to show off the footage. I have recommended this app to lots of my friends looking for a way to get lap times with out braking their bank accounts! It's easy to use and there is a lot of documentation available if you can figure something out. Plus the forum! Nothing compares to Harry's LapTimer!

Most unintuitive application ever developed

In preparation for my next track day I've purchased this app and have been trying it out around town. I think I've finally figured out the basics through trial and lots of error. MultiCam worked once, never again...can't figure out how to overlay external video from GoPro. Documentation online looks nothing like this version. Screens are impossible to navigate and make no sense, red flags everywhere with no clear direction on the problem or resolution. Time to take the core of what works well and start over with a new intuitive and simplified interface.

Difficult to use

Bought this app with high expectations. The user interface for uploading and overlaying videos is incredibly difficult to use. Trying to get GoPro video as master video is almost impossible. It's not worth the effort. I'm a youtubers and make videos and vlogs so I know it shouldn't be this difficult. I finally got an overlay on a GoPro video but it required using a computer and then syncing the video it's still not perfect and the video is not separated per lap so I have to do that individually also. Waste of $28 for me.

Need better autox setup interface

App keeps quitting when I rename an autox track and create the start and finish. I should be able to set the finish line first if I choose. I have reset the s/f line by accident because I clicked "Autocross". There should be a pop up asking if I'm sure. I don't know what "purge" means. Why not use words like "reset"? I would like to be able to set the start line and then, while I'm walking the course, close the app or shut off the screen...then go back in the app and set the finish line. Add these and it'll be 5 stars! :)

Misleading features

Not worth purchasing (at the moment). The app is misleading if you have the latest iOS. The app will not support the multi-cam as stated in the description.

So much potential so many problems

Been using this app for 3 years so all of my complaints are of repeated use over this time. The crashing is just so frustrating, since I Autocross, tracks are not available and it seems the simple task of setting a start and a finish point results in an app crash every few times which requires re-walking to the start line and hoping it doesn't do it again (and yes it sometimes does and no if it crashes the poi do not get saved). Would help "A LOT" if you could set start and finish independently with the wizard.... GoPro video linking and downloads work properly about 5% of the time, it usually downloads the movie as an unlinked copy which is fine but the manual linking process is either out of sync or causes another app crash. Scrolling through graphs or opening graphs causes crashes constantly. The sync process for videos is really not intuitive at all, it's easier to just try and repeat overlay'd videos over and over until the PnP video is aligned. It needs to have a preview (maybe just 5 seconds of video), or split screen video, waiting 5minutes to render an entire file is silly. Deleting video should UNLINK it from a lap and not delete it off the device. Or have some undo, I've accidentally deleted the wrong video a few times which is what really really really pisses me off and what broke the camels back. At this point I'm done with the frustration and will use something else from now on, and yes there are other options out there.

Great Lap Timer

As a habitual DE driver I use Harry's Lap Timer and find it excellent. Is it pinpoint accurate (using the iPhone's internal 1 Hz GPS)? No. But it is more than accurate enough to use for gauging progress, examining split times, recording video of your line, etc. Unless you're going to commit to serious data analysis of your lapping, Harry's is all you need. Great app!

Best telematics app for trackday enthusiast

Have been using this app since the old days on the Palm Pilot. Harry's dedication to continued improvement based on feedback from the user community and his own experience as a fellow enthusiast is unparalleled. Highly recommend the full "Grand Prix" version.

Best car app ever!

Simple, concise, works.

Great Product - Please read if using on GTR

This is a great product. Just by itself it is easily the best thing and easiest to use for improving laptimes. Great customer service as well when I was at the track and needed help. GTR Owners - I spoke with Harry, the GTR ecu is a bit wonky in how it works. So the OBD2 functions won't read proper values. He expects this to be fixed by version 19.1 which is expected no earlier than middle of this year. Just an FYI because I couldn't find anything on the forums about it.

Keeps crashing on iphone 6

Keeps crashing on iphone 6

Sweet

Love this app! Works great for racing. If only I could figure out how after setting the direction to submit it and go back. I get stuck on that page and have no way out. If I could do that then I could certify some tracks.

Extremely helpful to improve your lap time

The information that this app delivers has been incredibly helpful to find a better line at the race track. Comparing the data collected from your personal fast lap to the fast lap of others shows you where and how to improve. Highly recommended. Thank you to those who are sharing their lap data.

Great App

Fantastic app, i've been using it at track days and racing for several years. Get an external GPS device, mount it on your dash for the next track day, and you wont believe how usefull it is...

Absolutely Superb

Was introduced to Harry's Lap Timer GP this weekend at COTA. Downloaded it to my phone at lunch, borrowed a friends' OBD-II bluetooth scanner and iPhone suction cup mount and voila! I was in business. Incredibly seemless and powerful. Worked without a hiccup. Now I have memories and a learning tool to last a lifetime. Thanks, Harry! Well done!!

Incredible app

It just works and provides tons of data for getting better on track

Track Junkie!

While there are certainly more precise equipment and software out there available to the hardcore racers, it's hard to deny Harry's work in his laptimer series. I owe both the Laptimer Pro and Laptimer trainer. For the cost of the apps, and the fact that I already had an iPhone 4 and iPad for other reasons, they are dollar for dollar, some of the best data acquisition and analyzing software a track junkie could invest in. For beginners: It allows for raw video recording followed by overlaying the data onto the edited video so that one may see the data of their lap in a fun manner. For the hobbyist: Simply record the session and sort through the laps to see how one handled each corner in terms of acceleration and cornering data. For a track junkie: Add additional external sensor for a data acquisition system that still costs hundreds to thousands less to anything else out there today. For instance, the internal GPS of the iPhone runs at about 1 Hz. Third party GPS sensors are available from $100 for a 5 Hz sensor, $150 for a 10 Hz sensor, and 20 Hz competitive sensor for around $400. The higher the hertz, the more accurate the time is, as well as the data acquisition. Again, best investment I have made towards my tracking experience.

Great App!

Works with multiple cams

What an app!

This application is just plain amazing. Used it at Watkins Glen and it performed great. Even synced some gopro videos. The videos look so professional and give you something to share with others. Highly recommended.

Excellent HPDE Application

Harry's lap timer is great, I use it at all of the HPDE's I attend. The graphs generated are great tools to learn where you can pick up a few seconds. The videos are excellent and allow you to show others just what you're up to on the weekends!

Unparalleled functionality. Confusing interface.

There is nothing else quite as awesome as this app. GPS+video+OBD-II data+custom tracks=amazing road or track videos and detailed data for number geeks. But the interface is arcane, confusing and not entirely consistent with iPhone conventions, so it has a steep learning curve. Plan to spend some time figuring it out. But once you do, you'll be tracking your track days, autocross, and perhaps even your daily commute, and making video of your best laps with data overlays and picture-in-picture of your reference laps or 2nd camera. Fun stuff, worth the work!

Great features!

Awesome

Perfect for track days

Great app. Easy to use with great video

An amazing set of tools

I've been driving on track for the last 5 years. The tools provided by Harry's Lap timer are very helpful. I've gained real insight into where on track I am loosing time and what I need to do to address. I'm using the suite of tools. Timer on my 3GS iPhone, an external GPS as well as the OBD II interface to collect the data. I'm then using the iPad for review and analysis. The next step up in data acquisition and analysis in my book would require an additional investment of >1K to get more meaningful data. Great product Harry!

Crashes?!

Well I have yet to use on circuit, that will occur on May 20th. Have tried using the trip A-B mode from home to work, only owned for a couple days, but the program has crashed and when it does the data is lost completely. I noticed this on Lap Timer Pro on my iPhone as well. Just worried while out on track if the thing crashes that data is lost making this a bit worthless. So can only give it 3 stars at the moment. The potential is definitely there for a full 5. Have ordered an external GPS receiver and OBD2 link suggested by Harry's site. Won't have them in time for the event, but next time for sure.

Outstanding!

I just took version 15 for a drive at Lime Rock and am extremely impressed. My installation uses the Dual XGPS150 @ 5 Hz, mounted to the harness bar vith the Makayama camera mount for the iPad. Easy to setup and use, excellent data capture and analysis tools...certainly an excellent value when compared to other dedicated systems. Excellent customer support via the author's website (and email) ...he clearly is a driving enthusiast and shares our passion. Off to Watkins Glen and Calabogie soon ... Yes, he has GPS data for those and many other tracks available in the vast track database.

Great way to view iphone LapTimer data!

This is the best way to view and analyze lapping data. This app gives you some extra information (over and above the iphone app) while using the same views as are included with the iphone app. The new diagram view lets you see your current lap's speed at any point on the track as well as that of your reference lap (simultaneously). Very slick! Also gives you the accumulated time differential at any point during each lap for the two laps selected. And now with the new user-configurable color selection relating to lateral Gs on the lap diagram, I can better analyze which corners I need to work on. And the elevation map is particularly interesting, particularly at a track like Road America which has 170+ feet of elevation change. Have used at three tracks so far this summer with great reuslts. Go Harry, go! Version 14.2 update: Same quality as before, it just works, and continues to amaze my rack buddies with TraqMates. Absolutely no issues, the software works amazingly well, and next time in Germany I'll search out Harry and buy him a beer!

Not Working

I downloaded this app to run a few laps in Interlagos, famous F1 circuit. The other drivers were all anxious to see this app capabilities, too bad it does not open, it crashes before initiating. Can't tell if it is good or bad since for now it is not working. I have reported the problem on their developer site, lets see if they can solve the problem.
