You are not limited to track driving only. For example, you may define your home and working locations as a track, collect statistics on different ways chosen, and analyze / optimize the time used every day.
Want to show your drive to your friends? LapTimer Petrolhead and above generates beautiful in car video recordings with all kinds of data overlaid, ready to be presented - e.g. on youtube. Even without video, recorded data can be analyzed using purpose designed views, making it easy to analyze and improve your driving performance.
Using online racing, you can use LapTimer in competition. LapTimer offers a Hall of Fame, allows watching you and your friends on track - all in real time. Compare your sector times, braking / acceleration points, and learn from each other.
You can start with your plain iPhone in the beginning and add external GPS and OBD II sensors later, step by step, and as you need it. LapTimer itself comes in three different editions: LapTimer Rookie is the entry level with all you need for lap timing; LapTimer Petrolhead is the advanced version including lots of video features, and LapTimer Grand Prix is the edition for professionals including Multi Cam recording, Health Kit integration, and advanced sensor and analytics functionality.
Please note that functionality depends on your device, the LapTimer edition chosen, and sometimes even external sensors added (like OBD II). Please visit our web page to get the full story. All edition can be upgraded later, all editions come with native iPhone and iPad support.

Pros and cons of Harry's LapTimer Grand Prix app for iPhone and iPad
Harry's LapTimer Grand Prix app good for
Harrys is an excellent choice to augment your track time. The replays, the stats, the overlays, they just enable me as a novice track goer to look back and identify what I need to focus on for constant improvement. Harrys holds ton so stats, and also offers the advanced functionality to add external devices (better GPS, Go Pro Cameras, etc) and to slowly upgrade my monitoring equipment slowly as my skills dictate.
I am using this app for a couple of years but main problem still exist. Freezing of menu when you want to overlay video will be impossible to complete your work.
I use it with GoPro camera and VBox sport, compatibility is perfect.
But impossible in 99% to overlay video without problems.
Also lap timer maintain big load and on iphone 6 plus cpu, as a solution i prefer to put air conditioning ventilation directly on iphone. Harry! Thanks for app! But there is a long way to go..
This is my favorite app on my phone. Fires up and works as expected every time. Video is great and love the overlay.
I was searching for a user friendly, cost effective way to track my progress and it share it with the world, as I have just began riding my motorcycle at track days in Texas! The fact that LapTimer has so many tracks Pre loaded into its system for easy access makes this app a no brainer! Multi cam recording and then adding the track overlays are so awesome! I will be using Harrys LapTimer and the last track day of the season at COTA (Austin,TX). I cant wait to show off the footage. I have recommended this app to lots of my friends looking for a way to get lap times with out braking their bank accounts! Its easy to use and there is a lot of documentation available if you can figure something out. Plus the forum! Nothing compares to Harrys LapTimer!
I have used Harrys LapTimer many times on the track and it is awesome! It not only creates awesome videos to share with friends, but it is also a great tool to utilize that will make you a better driver. It definitely adds to my track day experience and I highly recommend it!
This is the best way to view and analyze lapping data. This app gives you some extra information (over and above the iphone app) while using the same views as are included with the iphone app. The new diagram view lets you see your current laps speed at any point on the track as well as that of your reference lap (simultaneously). Very slick! Also gives you the accumulated time differential at any point during each lap for the two laps selected. And now with the new user-configurable color selection relating to lateral Gs on the lap diagram, I can better analyze which corners I need to work on. And the elevation map is particularly interesting, particularly at a track like Road America which has 170+ feet of elevation change. Have used at three tracks so far this summer with great reuslts. Go Harry, go!
Version 14.2 update:
Same quality as before, it just works, and continues to amaze my rack buddies with TraqMates. Absolutely no issues, the software works amazingly well, and next time in Germany Ill search out Harry and buy him a beer!
Some bad moments
Is iPhone6 supported?
The app keeps freezing while navigating in the menu... This is barely useable as it is. Please help
I just upgraded and the app crashes all the time. For some reason the track list is empty. So Im at the track today and I cant even use the app. Of course there is no indication in the app on how to get help. Stay away
Bought this app with high expectations. The user interface for uploading and overlaying videos is incredibly difficult to use. Trying to get GoPro video as master video is almost impossible. Its not worth the effort. Im a youtubers and make videos and vlogs so I know it shouldnt be this difficult.
I finally got an overlay on a GoPro video but it required using a computer and then syncing the video its still not perfect and the video is not separated per lap so I have to do that individually also.
Waste of $28 for me.
In preparation for my next track day Ive purchased this app and have been trying it out around town. I think Ive finally figured out the basics through trial and lots of error. MultiCam worked once, never again...cant figure out how to overlay external video from GoPro. Documentation online looks nothing like this version. Screens are impossible to navigate and make no sense, red flags everywhere with no clear direction on the problem or resolution. Time to take the core of what works well and start over with a new intuitive and simplified interface.
I downloaded this app to run a few laps in Interlagos, famous F1 circuit. The other drivers were all anxious to see this app capabilities, too bad it does not open, it crashes before initiating. Cant tell if it is good or bad since for now it is not working. I have reported the problem on their developer site, lets see if they can solve the problem.
Been using this app for 3 years so all of my complaints are of repeated use over this time.
The crashing is just so frustrating, since I Autocross, tracks are not available and it seems the simple task of setting a start and a finish point results in an app crash every few times which requires re-walking to the start line and hoping it doesnt do it again (and yes it sometimes does and no if it crashes the poi do not get saved). Would help "A LOT" if you could set start and finish independently with the wizard....
GoPro video linking and downloads work properly about 5% of the time, it usually downloads the movie as an unlinked copy which is fine but the manual linking process is either out of sync or causes another app crash.
Scrolling through graphs or opening graphs causes crashes constantly.
The sync process for videos is really not intuitive at all, its easier to just try and repeat overlayd videos over and over until the PnP video is aligned. It needs to have a preview (maybe just 5 seconds of video), or split screen video, waiting 5minutes to render an entire file is silly.
Deleting video should UNLINK it from a lap and not delete it off the device. Or have some undo, Ive accidentally deleted the wrong video a few times which is what really really really pisses me off and what broke the camels back.
At this point Im done with the frustration and will use something else from now on, and yes there are other options out there.
